For seven years, Partners for Innovation has been at work formulating the essential qualities of vital and resilient organizations. Our newly revised web site (www.partnersfi.com) summarizes our findings.

We call those organizations that are resilient and vital, Teeming V Organizations, acknowledging that the V-shaped formation of geese provides a memorable metaphor for being highly responsive and collaborative.

Do You Have a Teeming V Organization?

Four principles distinguish Teeming V Organizations:

1. Lead so that others do
The most effective leaders cultivate leadership in others. Resilient and vital organizations depend on every individual taking initiative and responsibility.

2. Promote the value of individuals
When competent people are doing work they are passionate about, everything changes. Their enthusiasm and energy are contagious. Cooperative trust among those individuals forms the intangible, diverse fabric of social capital.

3. Build a responsive network
Responsive organizations continually engage collaborative innovation. Organizations that successfully create a context for people to learn, think, and respond freely toward a common end, engender extraordinary results.

4. Find a mission that matters
A mission that differentiates the unique value of the organization evokes deep commitment and clarifies a unifying purpose for diverse initiatives.

If you can insure that these four attributes are present in your organization, you are well on your way to building a highly vital and resilient organization.

These Teeming V attributes have been derived from years of research, writing, and onsite experience. They have been tested and confirmed in many organizational settings.

To create a highly resilient and vital organization, look to the geese-grow your capacity for being collaborative and responsive.
