What is a Teeming V organization?
|
A Teeming V™ Organization is one that succeeds through collaborating individuals who
continually learn and innovate.
The word "Teeming" is not a misprint. When people work cooperatively work together to achieve a mission that matters,
they also generate an organization teeming with renewed energy.
The V refers to the V-shaped formation of geese. We like the geese as a metaphor for
healthy organizations because their collaborative efforts offer many parallels for vital and resilient organizations.
|
What do the geese have to do with it?
|
Flying together, due to the aerodynamics of their formation,
is easier than if they flew separately.
So too are the individual efforts of people enhanced by the value of their working cooperatively together. People are more
productive individually when they can capitalize on the exponential value of shared gifts, experience, knowledge, and resources.
The most strenuous position in the V is at the point. The geese rotate into this position to
relieve one another.
So too are organizations stronger that enable many to take initiative and leadership, if they have a commonly
understood mission and vision.
Their flight plan is well understood by each goose. When a fresh goose rotates
up to the leadership position, no time or energy is lost traveling in the wrong direction.
So too do organizations benefit from a mission that matters for it guides the work of everyone in the organization and
eases the need for supervision.
It is believed that their honking is a form of encouragement, supporting one another in an arduous
journey, and encouraging the lead goose to keep up the pace.
So too are people and leaders in organizations strengthened by appreciation and affirmation.
If a goose is sick or maimed, two geese fall out of the formation to stay with that
goose to help it heal.
So too people in organizations will build enduring bonds of loyalty and friendship when they help one another in times of
trouble or failure.
